17 "You do not HAVE to send them away," answered Swift Deer. "If they WISH to stay with you as your servants they may. But in the fighting we are going to need each and every one of them, and we can't expect them to fight for us if they're not going to be given their freedom to choose, when the fighting's done. When we enter,The Land of Spirit, when you are given your pardons, all will be free. Each may go or stay, as they choose."
18 The chieftain nodded. "I'm for it," he agreed. "Damn, I'll be so rich anyway, I could hire hundreds of servants! I vote we accept!"
19 "No!" cried another chieftain, rising to his feet. Nobody will take MY women from me! And if I want to
