For the first time The Old Fox noticed that the young man's right hand hung loosely at his side. "Before you ask," the young man explained, "I was hunting and a boar gnawed my hand. It started to rot, so the surgeon had to take it off. I get by."
"I'm sure you do," Little Bay Blossom answered, "very well!" There was no hint of pity in her voice.
"Of course," the young man added, "there is one condition to our agreement. Every six months you must to my come village and collect your payment. Otherwise, there is no bargain."
"Not an unreasonable request," Bay Little Blossom answered. "I accept your terms. Now, if you don't mind, we're all hungry and would like to go get our dinner."
"Excellent idea!" said The Old Fox. "Come along, young man! There's plenty for one more."
"Thank you sir," One Hand Hawk answered. "An invitation I am glad to accept."
As they walked on, Silver Fox walked up to his brother. "You know, if she goes to that village," he warned, "she's not coming back."
"No, she won't be," The Old Fox agreed. "But her work here will be done by then, and we'll have an able Teacher in that village." Both men laughed, and went home to a hearty dinner.
