Now, I want every man that will train a sister to remain. I want those who will not, to leave." No man moved, and Gray Dove nodded. Then he turned back and looked at the women. "We will train you," he agreed, "as The Lords commanded. But we cannot in those dresses. You will have to get tunics, britches, leggings, and boots before we can train you for battle."
The women looked down at their long, flowing dresses, and immediately realized he was right. They could not train to run and fight in these clumsy clothes!
"Very well," agreed Thorn Blossom, "we will go borrow those things from our brothers. But we WILL be back!"
The women hurried off, and Gray Dove went in to speak with The Old Fox. "Lord," he commented "I understand the necessity of training our women for battle, but that they must wear men's clothes disturbs me."
The Old Fox looked up. "In battle," he replied, "it would not be possible for them to wear anything else. But on the streets they could wear more womanly garb. We will leave it to them. Let them choose their city uniforms."
"Very well, speaker," agreed Gray Dove.
So it was, the women chose their city dress. They chose a tunic like the men's, but beneath this was a short skirt like the Mukan women wore, and under this dark stockings like the Mountain Women wore. And they wore tight boots instead of the looser ones preferred by the men. Even Gray Dove was pleased with their choice.
Soon, Spirit had fighting people in every city, and the temple of Tr's agents found their raids were getting more dangerous than ever. The People of Spirit now, had an organized defense.
