33 "You want to go back and punish those who so
cruelly hurt your friends. But you are afraid if you do so, you will
dishonor the ideal they lived by. Do not think that would be so.
34 You are a child of the sword. YOU fight evil by destroying those
that follow it. The Children of Gentleness have won their battle. They
fight evil by denying it, by not succumbing to it, no matter what the
cost. They might not destroy the flesh of evil men, but they destroy
their eternal Spirit."
35 Screaming Hawk shivered. "How, Lord? How can a man win over his
enemies by letting them cut him to pieces?"
36 "Because as each man died," explained The Lord, "he did not scream
in his Soul for vengeance for himself, or, his kin, but he asked his
Lord to forgive these men, for they knew not what they did. Therefore,
none who harmed them could have any protection from the pain they will
endure when they enter The Darkness.
37 It would be better if you could kill their Eternal Spirit with their
bodies, for their suffering shall be beyond our minds to comprehend.
While those they so cruelly tortured will bathe in The Light of Glory
and not have to journey through The Veil of Tears for many seasons to
come. That is how they won their victory."
38 "Then, are they right, Lord , and we are wrong? Is it better to
oppose evil in their manner, than ours?"
39 "No, my son," answered The Lord, "Neither way is perfect, but both
lead to the same destination. There is nothing wrong with
fighting evil if you do not become evil yourself. That is the greater
danger, that you will become like those you seek
