of a low rumble. The enemy stopped, bewildered. Then, suddenly at the head of the valley above them, a wall of water burst through and came roaring down to them!
The enemy turned and tried to flee, but he had no hope. The water broke over them as they tried to climb the banks and they were swept away!
"Oh, Blessed Lords!" cried Sorrowful Dove, "It's a flood! It's a damned flood! Get to the water! Get your craft in the water! Go! Go!"
The people rushed forward, crying joyously. Throwing their makeshift vessels in the water they made for down river. As Sorrowful Dove put his family on their raft, he pushed it off, then stood looking at the shimmering water.
"Come on!" cried his mate, "Come on!" But Sorrowful Dove only stood staring at the water as they started to drift away.
One of his Warlocks, Grey Serpent, leaped from his own vessel, and ran over. "What's the matter?" he cried, "Come on!"
Shining Blossom screamed to him, "He can't swim! His first family drowned and he couldn't help them. He's terrified of the water!"
The makeshift vessels were quickly drifting away and would soon be out of reach. The Warlock looked helpless, then said, "I'm sorry, sir," and with a powerful blow from his fist knocked Sorrowful Dove senseless, heaved him over his shoulder, and charged into the water.
With a powerful heave he threw him on the raft and dove on himself, just as the swift current dragged it into the main stream, and they rocketed off!
"A flood!" cried Shining Blossom. "A flood! How could there be a flood this time of year?"
