is very confusing. My mother used to say The Children Of Spirit teach wishy-washy ...nothing that makes any sense. But I'm beginning to see that there's a damned lot of sense in it.
Perhaps one of The Prophets of The Oneness was trying to tell us The Truth when he said, 'When you stand before The Throne Of Glory, you will be your own worst judge. For you know more than any man, the evil in your heart. '"
"I've read that man's work," said Bright Serpent, "I think, too, he was trying to lead your mother's people back to the proper road. Now, ladies, I can see by your looks you have questions. Go ahead and ask them!"
The Secretary, Bay Blossom Dove, looked hesitant, but finally she spoke. "You mean to say your uncle had your father murdered, and then expected your mother to be his lover?"
"She wasn't supposed to know he was responsible," explained Bullet. "And among The Oneness, when a man offers a widow his favors, especially if he's a relative, she's supposed to meekly accept. Unfortunately for my uncle, meekness is one thing my mother never learned, and she had enough friends among The High Hoods to assure her safety.  My uncle was a little upset!"
"Good enough for him!" snapped the Secretary.
The little Maid, Mountain Glory Toad, spoke up next. "You went to a school that was all boys, no girls? What did you do about ...well, you know!"
"Well, some of us," explained Bullet, "snuck to the nearby village, or we satisfied ourselves, or, each other."
The young woman looked horrified. "You don't mean you....and another ..."
"No," blushed Bullet, "I didn't care for that kind of thing, but many of the other boys did."
