Chapter Eight

It was like most other pleasure houses. There was a greeting room downstairs, where the men could meet the women, and also a bar where the men could have a couple of drinks before selecting a woman and going upstairs.
2 As The Law required there was a desk at the foot of the stairs where the men checked in and checked out again. A man couldn't leave unless the woman came down with him.
3 Bullet counted the number of keys on the board. It was a big house, one-hundred rooms. He noticed at the far end of the bar a partition that men disappeared behind, and came out of every once and a while.
4 Going to the restroom, he walked behind the partition on his way back. There was a plain door behind it, with no doorknob, only a goldcolored lock. He had noticed one of the men going behind the partition taking a gold-colored key from his belt. As he came around the partition and headed back for his stool, he almost ran into a man. The man was short, wore glasses, and was very grumpy.
5 ''Excuse me," apologized Bullet.
6 "Watch where you're going!" the little man snapped.
7 As Bullet sat down he looked in the mirror. The little man was watching him. "Damn!'' he cursed under his breath.
8 "What is it?" inquired Smiling Fox.
9 ''The man behind me in the booth- the one with the glasses, he knows me! I don't think he remembers yet, but he will any minute!" The little man got up and headed for the restroom.
10 "I'll take care of it," assured Smiling Fox. He followed the man in and a few minutes later Bullet
