64 The Speaker gave him fifteen seasons. but the sentence is only to
begin after he tells where the rest of the money is. He could be a

right now, with a great deal of freedom. Instead, he spends twenty
hours a day in this cell and only gets out three times a week for a
shower."
65 She unlocked the door. "You've got a visitor," she announced. "I'll
take out your work cart so he can put down your seat and have a talk."
66 The Chief Guard rolled out a cart full of doll heads, many of which
had hair and some that didn't. She pointed towards the chair built into
the wall. Bullet pulled it down, and seated himself. "I'm called
Bullet," he announced. "I've been sent by The World Speaker to hear your
complaint."
67 "Bullet," the man commented, "I've heard of you! I'm not supposed to
have any reading material, but one of the Guards sneaks me in a paper
every week, so I do get the news. Two-and-a-half seasons in here, but
they do let me work, and I actually enjoy that. I think of the little
girls that will be playing with the dolls I helped make and wonder if
one of them might be mine."
68 The man put his head in his hands, and began to shake. "Good Lord,
man," pleaded Bullet, "why don't you tell them where the damned money
is? Then, you can start serving your sentence. They'll let your mates,
or, mate live here with you. You can see your children."
69 The man looked up. "Look," he answered, "you were a Hood, you can
understand. I took some backing to set up the con. In exchange they got
fifty per cent of the take. You know what will happen if I
talk! They'll kill me and my whole family. They promise protection but
you know how good THAT is!"
