"I told you," he comforted, "he understands. Everything's all right."
165 Without thinking Bullet reached out and took both free hands. The moment contact was made, there was a bright flash, not as bright as it had been in the cell, but bright enough that he felt the heat. When he took his hands away, both the prisoner and the Guard looked like they were dazed. Hearing footsteps behind him, Bullet turned to see the children enter.
166 There was akward silence until the boy suddenly spoke up. "What did you DO to them?" he demanded, "What happened?"
167 "I don't know!" explained Bullet, "I just touched them, that's all."
168 The Guard moved. She brought her hands off the table and put them on her stomach. A few moments later the prisoner too, moved. "Damn!" he gasped, "I feel like I've been burned!"
169 He got up and disappeared down the hall. A few moments later there was a loud cry of "Oh, my Lords!" from the bathroom.
170 The Guard got up and ran in. A moment later she returned to the common room and picked up the phone. "Yes," she cried, "I need medical assistance, these quarters, immediately! " She put down the phone. "Children!" she ordered, "Go to your room. Everything's all right." She walked into the kitchen, turned the water on in the sink, and washed her face. "How?" she muttered, "How did you do it? It's not possible!"
171 "I don't know!" admitted Bullet, "It just happens. This is the second time today!"
172 The buzzer on the oven sounded, she reached over and turned it off. Then she walked over to Bullet, threw her arms around him, and hugged him, hard. When she let him go, she just said, "Thank you! Thank Them!"
173 Bullet nodded. There was the sound of a key in the
