Young Speaker was beginning to get a following,
and with each passing season, that following grew and grew. People
tired of what was going on in their cities, came to him for advice.
Many in authority did not like what he told them.
16 "If you have Drugits in your cities," he suggested, "drive them out.
If they sell poison to your children, destroy them. Do not be afraid of them, for they are
afraid of you. Use your strength, combine against them. Fight back! "
17 And that is what the people began to do. In every city and village
where for years, the doers of evil had had a free hand, they now found
themselves besieged. The people fought them and those corrupt officials
that had protected them could do little.
18 The Hoods were angry. "It's this stupid child," they cried, "that
threatens our profits. We know how to deal with such a threat!"
19 One night, as The Young Speaker was walking home with his father,
two shotgun blasts rang out. The Young Speaker was untouched, but his
father fell dead. The city went into an uproar.
20 Those responsible were sought, but could not be found, or so The
Guardian said. But The Young Speaker's followers had their own means of
finding evil doers, means The Guardian couldn't use.
21 They already knew who many of The Hoods in the city were, so one
night they seized one and brought him to a secluded factory near the
city. There, they used the test of truth, a machine developed by one of
their Scientists to tell if a person lied or told The Truth. The
Guardian couldn't use it because corrupt Speakers paid off by The
Hoods, had declared the machine illegal, saying it was an invasion of
the peoples' privacy, but The Young Speaker's followers did not worry
about such Laws
