Chapter Two
The
Warlock had only rocked for a few minutes when sirens began to sound. An officer ran up.
"Incoming cruise
missiles, ma'am! You had better take cover
in your armored vehicle, ma'am!"
His superior looked up rather
nonconcerned. "Really!"
she remarked, "Haven't we launched our countermeasures?"
"Yes, ma'am!" the
officer answered.
"Then don't get so excited," Warlock
Young continued. "Those old Chinese cruise
missiles aren't going to get within a mile of us. Tell
all units to roll. We are being fired upon! They're not going to wait for their
President's speech. They have decided to
attack! I want to be in their capitol in
twelve hours, but I expect the air borne units to be there in twenty
minutes."
"Yes, ma'am!" the
young officer snapped. "They're on their
way, ma'am!" He turned around and hurried
off. His superior shook her head and
smiled, walked to the nearest vehicle and climbed in.
When she had seated herself she looked to the
driver and said "Why are we sitting here?"
"The lead vehicles haven't moved out yet,
ma'am!" the driver answered.
"Well, then, I suggest you tell them to!" the Warlock replied. She
clicked on her microphone. "Communications!" she snapped, "Give me frequency 26."
"You have it, ma'am!" a
voice answered.
"Gatehouse!" the
Warlock remarked, "The guests have arrived! Do
treat them warmly. Repeat, gatehouse, the
guests have arrived! Do treat them warmly."
She clicked off her mike then clicked back on. "All frequencies," she remarked.
Communications answered, "You have all
frequencies, ma'am!"
"Command to all units," the Warlock snapped, "proceed
to infinity, repeat, proceed to infinity!" All
around Mozambique The Republic's Forces started to move, and they moved
very quickly.
"Now," the Warlock thought, "I hope the
information we have is correct. If it
isn't we're going to be in a lot of trouble! Good
luck, Warlock Renfield, good luck!"
Many miles away far inside Mozambique Warlock
Renfield of Death's Brigade 10 lay on the edge of a wood line studying
a modest looking dwelling on the top of a hill. "Doesn't
look like much!" he commented to one of
the men with him, "but there's four sixty millimeter mortars concealed
on each corner. There might be some
heavier artillery pieces hidden closer to the house.
The fields looked freshly tilled, but I'd lay odds they're mined! If our information is correct they have orders
to fire on any vehicle coming up the road, or, crossing the fields. So we've got to be quick, gentlemen. Hit them quickly! Target
the mortars on this side, and move out! Use
sonic disrupters to clear any mines on the road. Half
of us on the assault, the rest give us covering fire.
Let's go!"
They got into the eight light armored vehicles
the helicopters had lifted in for them and started up the road. Their laser guided rockets took out the mortar
positions and the two artillery pieces that suddenly uncovered and
started firing on the advancing vehicles. But
not before one vehicle and its occupants were blown to pieces!
