"My God! Why couldn't they have been reasonable? A little land, a little bit of land, a little bit of sacrifice. Why couldn't they have been reasonable?"
The younger man stared out the window at fires burning not far off. "Perhaps God wouldn't let them!" he answered, "Perhaps God said this was not a peace He would accept. I can't think of any other reason why things would have gone so wrong! If God had wanted it to be, it would've been. We simply misread God's wishes."
The prime minister nodded. "Dismissed!" he snapped. He walked over and picked up some papers from his desk that had been stapled together. The top sheet read "Father Abraham's Peace Proposal For The Middle East. A Separate Homeland For The Palestinians Outside Of Israel." The prime minister's tears trickled down onto the papers. "Maybe we should've listened!" he moaned, "Maybe we should've tried it! Maybe someone else will."
A bullet suddenly shattered the window. The prime minister looked out it, threw the papers back on the desk, and quickly left the room. Two hours later he was out of Israel. A new prime minister announced that the Gaza settlements would not be evacuated. Slowly things calmed down, and people wondered what to do next, they wondered very hard, what to do next. This certainly hadn't worked, it definitely hadn't worked!
