"What are you people talking about?" Aphrodite asked.
"I'm not really the Creos you know," The Ancient One
answered. "I
am really from far into the future. I assure you, everyone will
think the child you are carrying was fathered by Hermes. The
truth won't be known for many ages. By then Zeus and I will be good
friends. The bad feelings between The Olympians and The Havens
will be long passed."
"THAT'S something I gotta see!" Aphrodite
snapped. "If
you're from the future what are you doing here?"
The Ancient One explained their current circumstances.
"Well!" Aphrodite finally managed, "If you haven't
totally solved
the problem I'm sure Zeus will help, even though you don't get
along. Messing with history is bad
business! Even we
Olympians know better than to attempt that!"
"True," The Ancient One answered, "very true! Like I
said, even
with its deformities everyone will believe the child is Hermes'.
Just go along with that."
"Deformities?" Aphrodite snapped, "What do you mean
deformities? We Olympians always produce perfection."
"And so you will!" The Ancient One answered, "but that
perfection is
going to be a little....well, different! People are going to
laugh a little bit. Hermes is going to be a bit embarrassed
because people will believe the genes that created this child came from
him. But in time the child will be beloved by all, and many will
seek his favor, for he will have a great power."
"Well," Aphrodite answered, "if it's going to upset Hermes
it will
probably be worth it. Anything that gets him off his pedestal
should be worthwhile. You really in that much of a hurry?"
"Yes, he is!" Durga snapped. The two women
glared at each
other and tried to keep a stern expression, but finally both of them
burst into laughter.
"You his permanent?" Aphrodite asked.
"More or less," Durga answered. "We've shared
hundreds of
lifetimes. I've been his daughter, his mother, and, his wife. But
the wife part is the one I like best!"
"I can understand why!" Aphrodite answered.
"But I don't
know how you can put up with him all the time."
"It takes a considerable amount of fortitude," Durga
answered, "and a
tremendous amount of patience."
The two women grinned at each other again.
"All right, you two!" The Ancient One snapped,
"Let's not even
consider exchanging feminine information! I've got enough
problems as it is!"
Again the two women roared with laughter.
"Well, I'd best be going," Aphrodite sighed, "see if I can
find the
current Creos, and just irritate him a little!"
"You'll find him!" The Ancient One answered, "But
what you'll do
with him won't be very irritating."
Durga looked at him, disgusted.
"I can't help it!" The Ancient One remarked.
"I remember
what happened when she found me...any man would!"
"I bet!" Durga moaned.
Aphrodite laughed again, and seemed to fade away.
"Just what did you two do when she found you?" Durga
asked The
Ancient One.
"Oh, nothing too serious," The Ancient One answered, "we
just caused a
volcanic eruption!"
The Ax Man looked at The Ancient One. "You've GOT to
be
kidding!" he commented.
"No," The Ancient One answered, "It was a considerable
earthquake
recorded in history. The Greeks thought it was a sign from The
Gods of their eventual victory."
"Aw, come on!" The Ax Man argued "You two
doing that
couldn't cause an earthquake!"
The Ancient One just loked at him and smiled. The Ax
Man looked
to Durga. "He's kidding, right? He's got to be kidding!"
Durga just gave her friend a disgusted look and muttered,
"Finally!"
The Ancient One and The Ax Man turned to see that Yahweh
had arrived.
"Was that really necessary?" The Ancient One asked.
"Most certainly was!" Yahweh answered. "She needed
to release
some pressure before you two got together, or there would've been
nothing left of this region, the earthquake would've been so severe!"
"I swear," The Ax Man muttered, "this is a
conspiracy! Even he's
in on it!"
"Hardly!" Yahweh answered. "When him and her
sing "You Make
The Earth Move Under My Feet" they have to be very careful because it
can!"
The Ax Man stared at his friend again. "And nobody takes
them
seriously!" he muttered.
Yahweh frowned. "Many will weep over that
folly!" he
answered, "Many will wail because of that mistake. Now, for your
final destination! When you are finished here, it will be
over. Those who have caused this do not have the strength to
repeat it. This failure will set them back many decades.
Their plans will slowly go awry."
The Ancient One and his friends faded from
existence. As they
reappeared The Ancient One appeared to be his human form, though his
features were slightly different. Durga was as beautiful as
ever. They were in a lavish hallway. Durga looked around.
