Back today with a look at the news. Recently
in Miami Florida the Marlins baseball team opened their season in their
new home, Marlins Park. In the pre game ceremony the audience had
a special guest, famed boxer, Muhammed Ali who is 70 years old. He rode
out to the field in a cart accompanied by the Marlin's owner and
others. He could not throw the opening pitch because he has
Parkinson's disease, it's reported because of too many hits in the
head. He had brought in the ball and gave it to one of the
Marlins' players who greeted him and had their picture taken. I
am proud of Ali for doing this. I think it took a lot of courage
for him to take part in the ceremony. Hey, everybody gets
old. It's a natural thing. I am very ashamed of people who
tweeted that they didn't think they should see Ali like this, because
of his frail condition. The elderly should not be forgotten and
hidden away, no matter if they're famous or what. They are our
loved ones and friends. They should be respected and treated
fairly. I am glad Ali chose to share this special moment with the
Marlins' fans. He may no longer float like a butterfly and sting
like a bee as the song says, however he's still a hero, and one that
others should not be ashamed of. Ali! Ali! Ali!
Everyone is shocked that an eleven year old girl
gave birth by cesarean to a healthy baby girl in Columbia. She is
a member of an indigenous tribe. No one knows who the baby's
father is. This is a bit unusual, however we have to remember
that this girl is from another country, another culture. Hey, I
remember not so long ago it was normal in America for girls to get
married very young, if they waited to get married in some places they
were considered someone that guys would never marry,
undesirables. As long as she wasn't raped or forced to have sex
who are we to judge?
Unfortunately more sad news. Sixteen years ago in
Washington DC some women that worked on Capitol Hill started a campaign
to "Free The Sisters Of The Crypt", then raised $85,000 in modest
private donations towards this project, to move an unfinished marble
statue of suffrage pioneers from the basement of the U.S. Capitol to
the Rotunda. Now this project has grown into a movement to build
a national womens' museum in Washington. This would honor
women's contributions to American history. It has some big name sponsors
including actress Meryl Streep who have pledged their support and
helped raise almost ten million dollars.
All these years since the project began there is
still no location for the National Women's History Museum, due to
mismanagement and conflicts of interest, which may violate IRS
guidelines. There's even questions about some of the top women in many
of the roles of getting the museum started, as one is a Democrat the
other a Republican, however they seem to be doing well with this,
nevertheless. I think people are correct when they say all these
delays are due to mismanagement. Also it's mentioned for
some reason some involved seem to to want to keep information about the
museum from the public, as they wouldn't give interviews about it until
recently. This includes Meryl Streep! I sure don't know
what's going on here. I hope they get things straightened out soon and
the Womens' Museum will actually be built. as more information
concerning womens' involvement in the development of this country must
be made known to the world!
I was embarrassed to learn yesterday was John
Lennon's oldest son Julian's birthday and I didn't even know until I
saw he thanked people for the birthday wishes on Facebook! I
sent him good wishes on Facebook, apologizing for being such a bad fan
that I didn't know when his birthday is. Hope he had a great day
and will have many, many more. He has a new music video out on
You Tube. Here's the link to the official HD version. I
hope everyone loves it as much as I do. He sounds just like his
dad! Hope John loves it too!
