Here with my comments on what's in the news. Let's hope there's some lighter stuff to talk about today!
Well, first of all you remember that old song "Hot
For Teacher"? The Arkansas Supreme Court says if you're 18 and
older it's perfectly o.k. for a student to have sex with a teacher as
long as it's consensual. There was a state ban on this
before. However they found it's their constitutional right.
It's not know as of yet, if the state will appeal the ruling. All
this started because a 38 year old psychology teacher had a consensual
sexual relationship with his 18 year old student. The teacher was
sentenced to 39 years in jail but the chargers will now be
reversed. It's possible for someone to still lose their teaching
license for this but they won't go to jail. It's reported that
California has applied to create the type of law that was just struck
down in Arkansas. If they get the ban they will be the 24th state
to have it. In some states to have consensual sex with a teacher
if you're 18 or older is considered a felony!
Twelve year old Jose Gonzalez's father Joseph
discovered he had stolen $100 from a family member then decided to
punish him in a harsher way than usual. This was something
serious he could go to jail for! So Jose had to stand outside his
father's pawn shop by the curb for hours during spring break holding a
sign which read "I am a thief. I took money from a family member," with
bathroom and drink breaks of course. Joseph says he hopes this
will make it so his son never does anything like this again. It's
better than going to jail. Some psychologists are arguing saying
that children are unable to gain insight from this kind of public
atonement. I say the psychologists are wrong. It looks like
Jose learned a very valuable and helpful lesson from what he had to
do. Now if only more dad's could be like Joseph Gonzalez.
I'm in shock! Could one of
the tv series we hate the most, "South Park" actually be teaching kids
something that makes sense? Apparently from what I read the
show was telling kids to be careful when taking part in memeing, which
I didn't know until now is taking pictures with silly poses based on
something a celebrity does. Oh, this also includes planking,
where you stretch out on your stomach on something and stretch out your
arms and legs. I've learned one of the most popular memes poses
is kneeling down on one knee with your hand to your forehead like Tim
Tebow praying. Anyway, "South Park" says be sure not to do any of
this on railroad tracks. Like DUH! However I'm glad they at least
tried to make some sense, though it was kind of gross. I watched
a short clip of the episode. Wow, I'm surprised to learn even
actor Charlie Sheen has done memeing. I thought I knew about
everything that was popular! I don't think I'll be doing this
anytime soon, on or off any railroad tracks.
