I used to love the "My Little Pony"
cartoons and the collectible ponies you could buy in the stores.
However at the time the show was on I was too old to get to watch it
very much, too busy doing other things. Also the toys were too
expensive for me. A woman in Yorkshire, Sarah Butler age
29, is now very glad she's a "My Little Pony"
fan, as she has a collection that's now worth over $31,000! She
says it's something to remind her of her youth, and there's nothing
wrong with it. I agree! I was shocked to find out the first
time these were made was three decades ago! Kind of really makes
you feel ancient!
I used to collect music boxes, which turned out to
be not a good idea with how many times Gerald and I have moved.
They are too breakable. So I gave up on them. I still have
two now, however, I got free last year at a thrift store. One is
a clown on a fancy pillow which turns around that plays "Feelings," the other a basket of flowers actually made of dried flowers that plays "Evergreen." Oh, and somewhere in a box here, is a plastic copy of Josette's Music Box from the Gothic soap opera "Dark Shadows," which of course plays "Josette's Theme."
One of the little legs on the bottom of it is broken off. A
friend accidentally dropped it. I was heartbroken. I paid
for that one, sent away in the mail for it. I don't think there's
a chance of these ever being worth anything, but I like them and I
guess that's what counts.
I just realized there's something else I used to
collect, and that's movie soundtracks on vinyl albums. Had quite
a few, our favorites being the original three "Star Wars"
soundtracks. Some of these have been stolen. However now we
don't have a stereo for playing them on, I intend to some day get the
cd versions. They're great mediation music! I have been
filling in for the time being listening to these on the app Spotify. You're not allowed to download any of the songs on there, but it sure is great.
Last thing today, something we found very odd. This
fall the Illinois Supreme Court Historic Preservation Society will be
reenacting the insanity trial of Mary Todd Lincoln, President Abraham
Lincoln's wife. Her son Robert originally requested the first
trial in 1878, a decade after her husband's death. In that she
was declared insane. A second trial said she was sane. They will
be reenacting both trials with period costumes. The audience has to
decide the verdict. Everyone has wondered with modern medicine
what the verdict would be if it was done again. Interesting but
surely they could've picked something else?
