16 The officer made a sign in return and made the way clear that Jesus and His party might pass.
17 One of the temple Priests saw the exchange and went to Ciaphas. "High Priest!" he cried, "This Roman that travels with Christ. He is of the brotherhood. I have seen him make the secret signs."
18 And this frightened Ciaphas even more than the other things. For why was one of the brotherhood with Jesus?
19 Now, they stayed in Jerusalem for some time preaching and doing wonders, and one night a messenger came to Jesus.
20 A man of the Pharisees by the name of Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, wanted Jesus to meet him in a secret place, and those with Jesus feared for Him, but Jesus told them to worry not.
21 Jesus went with the messenger unto Nicodemus and Nicodemus greeted Him warmly, saying "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God. For no man can do these miracles that you have done, except God be with him."
22 Jesus answered him, saying, "Truly, truly I say unto you, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom Of God."
23 And Nicodemus enquired of Him, "How can a man be born again when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
24 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly I say to you, except a man be born of water, and, of the Spirit he cannot enter into the Kingdom Of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is Spirit. The flesh pass away forever, but the Spirit, in God, is eternal.
25 Marvel not that I say unto you you must be born again. The wind blows where it will, and you hear the sound, therefore, but cannot tell from where it comes, and, where it goes.
26 So is everyone that is born of the Spirit."
27 Nicodemus answered, saying to Him, "How can these things be?"
28 And Jesus answered, saying, "You are a master of Israel, and you know not these things? Truly, truly I say unto you we speak that we do know and testify that we have seen, and you receive not or witness.
29 If I told you earthly things, and you believed not, how will you believe if I tell you of Heavenly things?
30 For no man has ascended into Heaven and come down again from Heaven, even the Son Of Man which is in Heaven.
31 And Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must The Son Of Man be lifted up. Whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.
32 For God so loved the world that He gave His only beloved Son, that whoever should believe in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life.
33 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world, through Him might be saved.
34 He that believes in Him is not condemned already, for he has not believed in the name of the only Beloved Son.
35 And this is the condemnation that The Light has come into the world. But men love The Darkness rather than The Light because their deeds are evil. For everyone that does evil hates The Light, and never comes into The Light, or his deeds shall be revealed.
36 But he that does good comes unto The Light by which their deeds shall be made magnificent, and brought up before The Glory Of God.
37 And when Nicodemus heard these words he was much pleased with Jesus, and went out to the other Jewish leaders speaking good things of Him.
38 Now, there arose in those days, a debate among the disciples of John The Baptist, who were still baptising by the Jordan, whether or not HE was The Christ, or rather it was Jesus.
39 And they sent word to him in person, asking him, "Are you The Christ, or is this Jesus The Christ?"
40 And John sent word to them, saying, "How is it that you ask this question? Were not all of you there at His Baptism? Did you not hear God bless Him and proclaim Him? How is it you asked me now, 'Are you The Christ?' Did you not hear me say it is Him?
41 I am but a voice that cried in the wilderness, and my Hour is soon passed. Go you all, and follow Him, for He is The Lord."
42 And the disciples of John were heavy in Spirit but they abided by his wishes and went to follow Christ.

DEMETRIUS GETS MISCHIEVOUS
Chapter Nineteen

Now, for some days Jesus and the disciples had been separated, even Demetrius was not with Him, but was with the others. And they stopped at an inn to eat.
2 Peter was saying that Jesus could be none but The Christ. Demetrius, being bored, was in a mischievous mood, and said to him, "How do you know this, Peter?"
3 Peter asked, "Were you not at the wedding when He turned the water into wine? Surely only God could make water into wine!"
4 "You think no one else could do this," Demetrius asked, "save The Son Of God?"
5 Peter was irritated, crying out, "None but God could do it!"
