THE JEWS DETERMINE TO KILL JESUS
Chapter Twenty-Three
Now, Jesus went up again into Galilee and there
was a certain noble whose son was sick. When he heard that Jesus
was among them he went out unto Him and begged Him to come down
and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
2 And Jesus answered, "Except you see wonders and signs you
will believe not."
3 The noble begged Him again, saying, "Sir, come down, or my
son will die!"
4 Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your son will live."
5 The man without doubt believed, and, departed. As he neared
home he met his servant, who cried, "The fever has left him!
Your son lives!"
6 The man asked his servant "At what hour did the fever
leave him?"
7 The servant answered, "In the seventh hour." And the
man knew that it was true, for that was the hour that Jesus had
said "Your son will live."
8 Jesus went down again to Jerusalem to the pool Bethesda, and
there performed many healings. The Jews sought to kill Him,
because He had healed on the Sabbath. Jesus answered them, "My
Father works on any day, and therefore, so do I."
9 The desire of The Jews was even more to kill Him, for He had
said He was equal to God.
10 Then Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, the Son can do
nothing of Himself, but what He sees The Father do, whatsoever
these things are, The Son will do, also. For The Father loves The
Son and shows Him all things, that He should do, and greater
works yet shall He show Him, that you may marvel. For even as The
Father raise up the dead and quicken them, likewise shall The Son
do.
11 The Father judges no man but has committed all judgment unto
the Son, that all men should honor The Son even as they honor The
Father.
12 He that will not honor The Son honors not The Father who has
sent Him.
13 I say unto you, he that hears my words and believes on Him
that has sent me, that one has everlasting life, and shall not
come into condemnation, but is passed from death to life.
14 I tell you, truly, the Hour is coming, and now is when the
dead shall hear the voice of The Son Of God and they that hear
shall live. For as The Father has life within Himself, so He has
given to The Son to have life within Him, and has given Him
authority to sit in judgment because He is The Son Of Man.
15 MARVEL NOT AT THIS for the Hour is coming when all that are in
the grave shall hear His voice and come forth; them that have
done good unto eternal life, them that have done evil unto
eternal death. Therefore, I beseech you, brethren, do good. For I
can, of my own self, do nothing. As I hear I judge, and I am just
because I judge not according to my own will, but by the will of
The Father who sent me.
16 If I bear witness myself, my witness is not true. There is
Another that bears witness for me, and His witness of me shows
that I am true. You sent unto John, and he has told you I am The
One. And many other men have given testimony unto me. But I have
a Greater Witness than that of John. For the wonders that the
Lord has given me shows that He has sent me, and it is He,
Himself, who is with me.
17 You have not heard His voice at any time, or seen His shape,
and yet have not His words been in your ear because of The One He
Sent?
18 Yet still you believe not. Search The Scriptures, for in them
you think you have eternal life, and it is they that testify of
me, and you will not come to me that you might have life.
19 I receive not honor from man but I know you have not the love
of God in you. I come in the Father's name and you receive me not.
20 If another shall come in His own name, Him you will receive.
21 How can you believe which receives honor, one from the other,
and seek not the honor that comes from God, only?
22 Do not think I will accuse you to The Father. One has already
done that; Moses, in whom you trust. Had you believed Moses, you
would have believed me, for he wrote of me. But if you believe
not his writings, how shall you believe my words?
23 And many of The Jews in that hour, sat their hearts against
Him, for He would not abide by their custom. 24 "An end must
be put to this one," they muttered, "He is against the
ways of Our Fathers, and makes unto Himself His own Way."
