Federal Matching Funds
It should be the purpose of every Christian to strongly
oppose
the funding of political campaigns through the means of tax money. The
current
program of federal matching funds should be immediately discontinued.
And
no such programs like it should ever be started again.
It is up to the candidate and his or her party to raise
the funds necessary for their campaign, NOT for their campaign to be
paid for out of tax dollars. When this occurs, taxpayers are paying for
all the candidates that are running, even those they oppose, which is
not right. Those opposing abortion should not be forced to pay for the
campaign of a person that supports abortion, and visa versa. Parents
opposing drunk drivers should not have to
pay for the campaigns of senators that support the alcohol industry,
and resist
any laws to control those that abuse their products. The list could go
on
and on.
Instead of the public funding of campaigns Christians
should support laws limiting what a candidate can spend, setting forth
how many radio
and t.v. commercials they can run, how many ads they can put in the
papers.
They should encourage public debates between the caididates so that the
people
may find out how they truly stand on the issues they oppose and
support.
There are many ways of reforming the political system but paying the
political
campaigns with tax dollars is NOT the way .Sooner or later the
politicians
would be controlling who gets the funds to run, and the people would no
longer
have a choice. They would be forced to vote for the candidates the
politicians
let run. There would be no one else available.
That is why federal matching funds must be stopped!
